Rep. Fincher lives at the intersection of Libertarian bullshit and religious bullshit. (Usually, disregard for religion is one of Libertarians’ few good points.) I wonder if he’s also against fire departments (in which the government steals your money and uses it to put out other people’s fires).

Holy shit – was that really an entire episode without a single Islam story? Has the rest of the world finally caught up to the Middle East’s quota of bat shit crazy? I think I’m having call to prayer withdrawals.

We had this one in the notes: http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/asia-pacific/indonesia/140310/saudi-arabia-indonesian-maids-are-death-row-sorc

But we decided not to talk about it because we covered something very similar in the past. Admittedly it was a banner week.

Despite, and maybe because of, not having any guests, I thought this was one of your best episodes.

I know it’s a little late, but I’m still trying to catch up. I listened to this episode last night and I was laughing like a psychotic monkey (my wife’s description.) I grew up in a weirdly religious household. My mother was a dovout Catholic who ocasionally dabbled in Santeria. As a kid in Mexico, we were so poor that homemade Santeria was the closest we came to medicine. More than once, I had fevers “cured” with an egg and a handfull of herbs. It didn’t do much, except give us a feeling that something was being done.
Anyway, as we grew older, I remember meeting more “profesional” practitioners who felt that sacrifices were necessary for the magic to work. I just couldn’t believe that spilling blood could, in any way, have a positive effect in my life, so I insisted on using a live dove/pigeon that could be released at the end of the ritual. Obviously, I’m past that now, but it is funny to think back to what I used to accept, even if I never really believed.
    Anyway, gloryhole!!
